I'll let you all in on a little secret. You don't need to shop in stores that are exclusively Goth or alternative to find a great outfit. While it is true that supporting brands that make alternative brands it good for the alternative community, not everyone has a local goth shop. I have a local Goth shop although it is small, the selection is slim and studs and dragons aren't really my thing. Some of my favourite outfits have come from highstreet stores. Filter through the racks of trendy colourful fashion trends and you can find some real gems. John Lewis is a more high end department store, the quality of the outfits are great but they are often a little expensive. I regularly check online for sales, they also have a handy colour selector making it easy to find black beauties. These are five beautiful dresses that can be purchase at John Lewis.

Sheer paneling, gothic detailing and velvet shoulder caps, could this dress be more perfect. It is the most expensive dress on the list, definitely not for everyday wear unless you have a lot of disposable income. Due to the high intricate neckline i wouldn't accesorise it too much, perhaps a nice pair of earrings or a simple bracelet It would also be well suited for someone who wants a more curvy looking figure. Paired with your best pair of goth boots and a nice clutch this would make the perfect prom outfit.

This is a more summery version of the ever popular Wednesday dress, perfect for warm days or work wear. The great thing about this dress is it's simplicity, it allows you to be really creative with your accessories. I would choose a thick waist belt, spooky collar tips and some knee high socks or ripped tights.

I love the versatility of this outfit, it can be dressed up or down so easily for different occasions. For a more casual look layer up with a simple studded collar, a pair of chunky boots and a black fedora. Amp it up with long layered necklaces, big hair and a pair of dangled earrings for a mystifying aura.

When you want a dress that's all buisiness in the front and a party in the back look no further. The print is gorgeous and the style is just understated enough for everday wear. I would wear this to a gothic tea party or a lunch date with my man beast. The ribbon is playful and the opening would be ideal to show off some back ink.

This is a casual flowy dress that still has an air of elegance about it. The waist belt allows for a loose or tight fit depending on your occasion. It's a nice cross between a boho look and something a little more witchy. I wouldn't over do the accessories as it could easily go from fabulous to frumpy. Try hair pieces instread of jewellery, maybe some floral crowns for a festival look.
